Diagnostics with Leonardo and pQCT

Muscle weakness results in an increased risk for falls and therefore in an increased fracture risk. Furthermore a reduction of muscle force causes a reduction of bone mass (osteopenia) These risks can be recognised by an early diagnosis of muscular problems and prevented by a specific training. Muscle function can be described by various parameters. Using Leonardo mechanography the most important factors like force, power, speed, stiffness, coordination and balance can be measured during natural motion sequences. Isometric or isokinetic measurements are not suitable because they work with no movement or slow motion velocities. But a fast and coordinatively targeted movement is necessary to reach peak power or to prevent a fall.

The most important muscle parameters are determined using pQCT technology. A comparison of muscle- and bone cross sectional area can help to differentiate a secondary osteoporosis (osteopenia) from a primary disease („true"osteoporosis). Leonardo mechanography and pQCT enable the comprehensive analysis and diagnostic of musculo-skeletal diseases.

Clinical application

A meaningful osteoporosis diagnosis need more than only bone density. With pQCT in addition bone geometry and muscle cross sectional area can be evaluated. The combination with the Leonardo mechanography forms an expedient concept for a complete musculoskeletal diagnostics.
