Galileo® in Vancouver 4

04.03.2010

Day 9, Tuesday 23/02/2010 - Today, the entire short track speed skating team visited the Energy Centre. The members are in Vancouver since beginning of February. "The village is indeed really nice, but after nearly 3 weeks one wants to see something different," said Paul Herrmann. He further reported that on the training centre in Dresden, they have a vibrating plate. "But this one only goes up and down . Galileo is indeed something completely different! You actually feel the muscles in the back. „Today the Energy Centre was firmly in German hands. Before the hockey game against Canada the medical department of the German ice hockey team came by in order to power them.

Day 10, Wednesday 24/02/2010 - This morning we hosted Jenny Wolf. The silver medal winner of 500 meters in speed skating seemed to be very relaxed. On the first weekend in March her next World Cup race is held in Erfurt before the season is finished in Herenvehen - the Mecca of speed skaters in the Netherlands.

Shortly thereafter, the German figure skating team dropped in for a coffee and a little Galileo Training. After the competitions, the four are now looking forward on a couple of laid-back day in Vancouver.

The suspense of the game Germany against Canada, tied the athletes so that we had a very quiet afternoon in the Energy Centre. Unfortunately, Germany lost 8:2. The Canadian colleagues at the Energy Centre then had some malice for us Germans left.

Athletes Day - get together
For the afternoon and evening, the athletes were invited to celebrate an interdisciplinary cosy gathering. Among others, we were visited by the winner of the bronze medal in the biathlon 10km sprint, Jakov Fak (right) from Croatia.

Day 11, Thursday 25/02/2010 - Monique Angermüller trains at Olympic Training Centre in Berlin. After back problems her participation in Vancouver was on the knife's edge. Thanks to Galileo training at her orthopaedic surgeon she was able to plan for Vancouver and go to the start.

The Polish speed skaters, Konrad Niedzwiedzki (flag bearer at the opening ceremony) was also a guest and signed Canadian ice hockey jerseys together with Anna Rokita from the Austrian speed skating team.

Day 12, Fryday 26/02/2010 - After dismantling we went for the last time to downtown Vancouver to the semi-final game between Canada and Slovakia. While the North American colleagues watched, the final on Sunday at the Energy Centre, I was able to celebrate the 3-2 victory for the Canadian team at home.

With very nice impressions and experiences, I left Vancouver.
Go Canada, go!
