Diagnostics with Leonardo and pQCT

Muscle weakness results in an increased risk for falls and therefore in an increased fracture risk. Furthermore a reduction of muscle force causes a reduction of bone mass (osteopenia) These risks can be recognised by an early diagnosis of muscular problems and prevented by a specific training. Muscle function can be described by various parameters.

Leonardo Mechanograph® muscle function and performance diagnostics

Using Leonardo mechanography the most important factors like force, power, speed, stiffness, coordination and balance can be measured during natural motion sequences. Isometric or isokinetic measurements are not suitable because they work with no movement or slow motion velocities. But a fast and coordinatively targeted movement is necessary to reach peak power or to prevent a fall. ;read more...

Stratec pQCT Computertomography

The most important muscle parameters are determined using pQCT technology. A comparison of muscle- and bone cross sectional area can help to differentiate a secondary osteoporosis (osteopenia) from a primary disease („true"osteoporosis). Leonardo mechanography and pQCT enable the comprehensive analysis and diagnostic of musculo-skeletal diseases. read more...

Fields of Application

Clinical application

A meaningful osteoporosis diagnosis need more than only bone density. With pQCT in addition bone geometry and muscle cross sectional area can be evaluated. The combination with the Leonardo mechanography forms an expedient concept for a complete musculoskeletal diagnostics. Without evaluation of the muscle the diagnosis of osteoporosis is fragmentary. more...

Clinical studies

Muscle and bone form a functional unit. Therefore, the measurement of bone density and strength by pQCT, and the muscle diagnostics with the Leonardo force plate represent indispensable tools for clinical and preclinical research and fort he investigation of musculo-skeletal relationships. Important physically relevant parameters provide new insights for laboratory and practice. more...

Basic research

The measurement of trabecular density allows the determination of changes in bone metabolism at a very early stage. By determining the cross-sectional geometry the exact site of these changes can be located. Various diseases or drug effects on different bone surfaces (trabecular, endosteal, periosteal and haversian surfaces). The measurement using pQCT contributes to a better understanding of the causes and mechanisms of action. more...

Competitive sports

In competitive sports the measurement of physically correct parameters such as strength, power, speed or energy for the assessment of muscular competence is crucial. Various movements and exercises can be quantified with high precision, deficits can be detected. The functional diagnosis using muscle Leonardo Mechanography can be combined with the measurement of muscle cross-sectional area by pQCT. more...
